Built on community and history

At Sovereign, we strive to curate and provide homes that people want to live in today, and tomorrow – and quite often for us, this means regeneration and redevelopment. Taking influence from the past and present to ensure a place evolves for the future, and that is why we supported the delivery of a new community in Bristol, Wapping Wharf.

Community and history are at the heart of this development designed by Alec French Architects. The development embodies the wharf-like character, incorporating the historic New Gaol Walls and Gaol Ferry steps which has created an important link between south Bristol and the city centre, with tree-lined pedestrian routes for residents and locals to reach the waterfront.

The development is flanked by an array of local start-ups and independent shops, restaurants, cafes – with some retailers taking residence in upcycled CARGO units, reflecting Bristol’s cultural foundations of creativity and inclusivity

The dockside roots are key features of the apartments themselves, with many of the one, two and three-bedroom apartments overlooking the Floating Harbour, River Avon, and new street scenes.

Now home to around 1000 residents, Wapping Wharf has become a flourishing community and popular place to live, with local resident Emily telling us: “I love being part of the Wapping Wharf community, supporting local businesses and having everything within walking distance.”

If being part of building this fantastic community wasn’t enough, we were awarded the Best Shared Ownership Development (Urban) by CIH/Inside Housing.
